In 1914 the first World War began.Even though the world war  far away from New Zealand they still went to fight.Around 103,000 people went overseas to fight,at the time New Zealand had just over a million people So 10% of New Zealand went to fight in the war.Most of that 103,000 were soldiers.Half of that 10% were either killed or injured.Women lost their husbands  and children lost their fathers.People who survived weren’t the same.It either took them a long time to get the war behind them or it never did.On the 28th of
June Archduke Franz Ferdinand is assassinated.After the assassination WW1 was declared.
of september New Zealand announces that The maori Contingent going to war.16th of october NZEF leave on ten troopships.With around 8454 soldiers  and 3000 horses.8th of December The NZEF Joins the AIF
and the word ANZAC is created.

3rd of February 1915,New Zealand soldiers see their first combat.The first New Zealander to die in the war was William Ham.25th of April,New Zealand land in Gallipoli.Gallipoli. Wiremu Meoke was the first Maori soldier
to die.15-19th of December Allied soldiers are removed from Gallipoli.Around 2721 New Zealanders
died during their stay in Gallipoli.February 1916,The first soldiers from the Islands such as,Niue and Cook Island go out on a ship to Egypt.April,NZ soldiers enter France.And went to the western front.Most soldiers stayed in france.25th April 1916 The first Anzac day is celebrated.August The New Zealand Mounted Machine Gun Brigade fought the Ottoman Turks in the Sinai Desert. The brigade consisted of 1800 men. In September 6000 New Zealand Soldiers were wounded and 2000 died in the battle of Somme. In November Archibald Baxter is called up for military service but he refused and became famous in New Zealand for being a conscientious objector. 3000 men wounded and 700 killed when New Zealand soldiers fought to capture the village of Messiness from the 7th to the 9th of June. The soldiers were shelled by Germans. On the 12th of October New Zealand faced 2700 casualties, with 845 men dead or dying in the battlefield of Passchendaele. All of that happened in three years. 1915 - 1917.

1918 January,Fighting continued in the western front.five thousand New Zealand soldiers died  over that last
year of the war.March,The German have made a way to win war.4 November take two thousand German prisoners.On the 11 of November Armistice Day the war is over. Adolf Hitler committed suicide after the loss to the British empire.

4 months after war ended New Zealand troops caused a riot at Sling Army Camp on the salisbury plain.They were angry at having to stay in England they wanted to go home.

    I like the way that you wrote about the ANZACS that fought in World War 1. I acted like a soldier and wrote 2 letters about what life was like in Gallipoli. Keep up the good work Taj. Are you going to be a hero like the ANZACS?
